The power of the discovery phase

From Idea to Impact

Picture this: a client — maybe even you — comes to us with a problem that needs solving.

It could be a new product launch, a full rebrand, or a website redesign. You have a tight deadline and a limited budget. You also have some ideas of what you want, but you’re not entirely sure how to achieve it.

We're excited to help and start working on a detailed proposal with a suggested timeline, plan, and cost breakdown. As part of the proposal, we recommend spending the beginning of the project in what we call the discovery phase.

Sounds great, right?

But this is where things can get interesting. Because occasionally we come across clients who seem to have a case of what I call exploraphobia — a fear of the discovery phase process and all that it entails.

What causes exploraphobia?

Having been on both the client and agency sides of the fence, I understand the hesitancy around the discovery phase. Clients often want to get started on the project ASAP and save as much money as possible. More importantly, they may not fully grasp its value and how it will benefit them in the long run.

But, here’s the thing: the discovery phase is actually the secret ingredient to any successful project.

It’s where we take a deep dive into your business, products, goals, and target audience to understand your unique challenges and opportunities. It allows us to find out everything we can to tailor our approach and deliver the most effective solution.

Why embrace the discovery phase?

It helps us (and you) see the bigger picture

Instead of just addressing symptoms, we focus on the root cause. By understanding your overall business and goals, we can create a solution that addresses your needs at the source and delivers the most impact.

It saves you time and money

By taking the time to understand your business from the get-go, we can help you avoid costly mistakes and rework later on in the project. Plus, it saves you time by ensuring we're on the same page from the start and can hit the ground running.

It leads to more effective solutions

By understanding your unique challenges and opportunities, we can create solutions tailored to your specific needs. This leads to a more effective outcome that delivers the results you're looking for.

It builds trust

The discovery phase is all about building a strong relationship with you, the client. By taking the time to understand your business and goals, we demonstrate commitment to your success and show we have your best interests in mind.

Now, you might be thinking, "But isn't the discovery phase just a way for you to bill more hours?"

Well, kicking off a project with a discovery phase can add some extra time and cost. But the value it brings to the table far outweighs everything else. Skipping the discovery phase may save you some time and money in the short term, but it's a false economy in the long run.

So, there you have it. The discovery phase is a vital step in any project, and we take it very seriously at Sheer Havoc. By allowing us to gain a better understanding of your business and goals, we can create effective solutions that deliver the results you’re looking for. And isn't that what it's all about?

Don't let exploraphobia hold you back. Contact us today to learn more about how our discovery phase process can benefit your next project.
